CUBIC has been an affiliate partner since 2004 after Western Controls was granted accreditation as a CUBIC switchboard manufacturer. The CUBIC modular system has seen the Danish company become a recognised leader in electro-mechanics worldwide.
Western Controls was looking for a partner with a long history, superior products and exceptional customer service and CUBIC ticked all the boxes. CUBIC was founded in 1973 and began producing electrical panels in Aalborg, Denmark one year later. CUBIC now has international offices and partners throughout the world.
Modular Systems
CUBIC’s modular system is based on a standard size of 192 mm which provides maximum versatility and customisation for end-users, customers and consultants. The modular system was designed by CUBIC to be quick and easy to assemble new electrical panels and modify existing ones using standard components.
The modular system is delivered as flat-packs throughout the world with full documentation to be constructed by trained panel builders into complete panel systems. The 192mm size is divisible by 12 (without decimals), so panel fitters do not need to worry about millimetres when assembling.
The system can be used in the following switchboards:
- Main & distribution switchboards
- MCC panels
- Control panels
- 19” racks
Several options are available including Multi-Drawer, Plug-in, MPI inserts and CU mini.
Advantages of Using a CUBIC Modular System
Western Controls recognised the benefits of using CUBIC’s system. Our panel builders liked that the system could be easily expanded in the future to meet the ongoing needs of our clients which would provide time and cost savings. The systems are easy to assemble and come with full documentation on design, engineering and assembly. CUBIC has designed the systems for the fastest assembly possible so the delivery time of completed switchboards could be reduced. To assist with mounting and transportation, CUBIC has developed a range of auxiliary tools.
The busbar systems are rated up to 7000 amps. The unique system means it’s not necessary to drill holes or cut threads. The assembly bolt has an adjustable connection where it is needed on the busbar holders. All coverings and protection plates are available as standard parts with no need to adjust.
The modular system allows you to choose a separation from FORM 1 to FORM 4 proving safety and operational efficiency. Importantly for Western Australia, the CUBIC modular system can withstand the harshest of environments.
Industries CUBIC Services
CUBIC products are used in the following industries:
- Oil & Gas
- Mining
- Infrastructure/Building
- Renewable Energy
- Power Plants

Western Controls has produced panels for clients in most of these industries.
Testing
CUBIC has tested their systems to the highest DEKRA, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Germanischer Lloyd and Australian New Zealand standards. CUBIC also carries out extensive earthquake, shock and arcing tests to ensure safety as well as operating dependency.
Training
CUBIC requires all assembly manufacturers undergo their Global Training Program to ensure a high standard of quality is provided to end users worldwide. Assembly manufacturers also sign an Agreement on Cooperation stating they will use the modular system as per documentation.
